An Eclectic Bibliography The best brief book on how to be a mentor is Mentoring: A Practical Guide, subtitled How to Develop Successful Mentor Behaviors, by Gordon Shea (Crisp Publications, Menlo Park, CA, 1992. Toll Free number (800) 442-7477). If you have an ongoing interest in mentoring, subscribe to Mentor: To Promote and Encourage the Art and Practice of Mentoring, a newsletter produced at P.O. Box 4382, Overland Park, KS 66204 for $20/year. It applies mostly to mentoring of young people, especially in educational settings, but many articles are useful in the workplace context as well. You may also want to be in touch with the International Mentoring Association, which holds a conference in April in each year and publishes a newsletter at Offices of Conferences and Institutes, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI 49008-5161; (616) 387-4174. What follows is a selective list of valuable articles about mentoring.
